Clearing CMOS

 

If the power-on password is unknown, clearing CMOS will disable the password and allow the computer to be operated. 

The board shown is an example of one used; your board may differ slightly--see Note below.

CMOS jumper location

1 Complete the preparation for disassembly.
2 Remove the hood.
3 Remove the fax/modem board.
4 Open the system board bracket.
NOTE: If your board is different from the one shown, click links to see alternative boards for  other models or 5070, 5184, and 5185 models.
5 To disable the password, move the jumper bub1.gif (838 bytes) (J22) from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 for 10 seconds, then return to pins 1-2.

Replace the system board bracket and perform the desired troubleshooting.
