AMD K6-2 Processor

This page shows the removal and replacement procedure for an AMD K6-2 processor.

1 Perform preparation procedures
2 Remove the hood
3 Remove the fax/modem
4 Open the system board bracket
5 Locate the AMD K6-2 processor
6 Remove the clip bub1.gif (838 bytes) from the heat sink bub2.gif (842 bytes)
7 Lift up the ZIF socket handle bub4.gif (843 bytes) and lift the heat sink bub2.gif (842 bytes) and processor bub3.gif (841 bytes) out of the socket   

To reinstall the AMD K6-2 processor, rub a thermal transfer crayon on the bottom of the heatsink, then reverse the steps above. (The thermal transfer crayon replaces the thermal pad used with earlier K6 processors.)
