Hot-Swap Fan Replacement (Netfinity 7000 - 8651)

Hot-Swap Fan Replacement

The server comes with three hot-swap fans.

NOTE: You do not need to power-off the server to replace a hot-swap fan.

The following illustration shows the replacement of a hot-swap fan. Refer to this illustration while performing the steps in this procedure.

  1.  Screws
  2.  Power cord
  3.  Power connector
  4.  Hot-swap fan assembly

To replace a hot-swap fan, do the following:
  1.  Remove the top cover (see 'Cover (Top)').

To ensure proper system cooling, the top cover  should be removed for no more than 30 minutes during this procedure.

  2.  Determine which fan assembly -4- needs to be replaced.
  3.  Disconnect the fan power cable -2-

The power cable to the fan should be  disconnected before you remove the fan  assembly from the server, otherwise, the fan  might start turning while you are holding it.

  4.  Loosen the two screws -1- on top of the fan  assembly and lift the fan assembly from the server.

NOTE: If the fan rotor is very dusty, it might cause the  fan to stop. Try cleaning the fan before you replace it with a new fan.

  5.  Slide the replacement fan assembly into the server.
  6.  Tighten the two screws -1- that hold the fan in place.
  7.  Connect the fan power cable -2- to the power  connector -3-
  8.  Replace the top cover.
