SO-DIMM Installed | Total Memory | Available Memory |
---|---|---|
None | 4MB | 3712KB |
4MB | 8MB | 7808KB |
8MB | 12MB | 11904KB |
16MB | 20MB | 20096KB |
The following table shows the available memory
on a system with an 8MB base memory with different
sizes of SO-DIMM.
SO-DIMM Installed | Total Memory | Available Memory |
---|---|---|
None | 8MB | 7808KB |
4MB | 12MB | 11904KB |
8MB | 16MB | 16000KB |
16MB | 24MB | 24192KB |
Memory errors might stop system operations or cause
error codes to be displayed.
Use the following procedure to isolate memory problems:
NOTE:
Make sure that the SO-DIMM is fully installed
in the connector.
A loose connection can cause an error.
For more information about installing SO-DIMMs,
see 'FRU Removals and Replacements'
If memory problems occur intermittently,
use the loop option to repeat the test.
For more information on running the loop test,
see 'Running the Diagnostics'
When the test detects an error,
an error log is printed on the
printer connected to the parallel port.
See 'Printing and Displaying Error Logs' for more information.
Do not replace FRUs
because of a single, nonreproducible failure.
Single failures can occur for a variety of reasons
that have nothing to do with a hardware defect, such as
electrostatic discharge or software errors.
Consider replacing a FRU only
when a recurring problem exists.
If you suspect that problems besides a failing FRU exist,
clear the error log and run the test again.
Do not replace any FRUs if errors do not reoccur.
