Abstract: UNABLE to UPDATE SERVICE PROCESSOR / POST ERROR 01299181

TEXT:

Unable to update Service Processor / POST error 01299181

SYMPTOMS:

•  While trying to update the Service Processor the system returns a message,  "Unable to Flash Service Processor".
•  A POST error 01299181 "Power backplane ID is invalid".
•  When the System Card data section is viewed under System Information in the System BIOS,  there will be unreadable characters in the power backplane information and system board  information.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is a Netfinity 5500 server, Type 8660, any Model.
•  The system's Diagnostics Pass.
•  The system's BIOS level is 1 or higher.
•  The system has one or more of the described symptoms.

WORKAROUND:

Remove all A/C power from server to reset service processor.
Power should be removed for at least 2 Minutes.
Restore A/C and Flash Service processor.
If service processor flash completes, the POST error should go away, and system board and backplane information should be restored.

DETAILS:

System board should not be replaced until an attempt has been made to reset the Service Processor.
