Type 2134 / 2176 SL-A Aptiva Computers system boards

- Power off the system unit.
- UNPLUG the power cable from the electrical outlet.
- Locate the power on password jumper
SL-A1 board = JP14
SL-A2 board = JP12
Type 2159 / 2162 SL-A Aptiva Computers system boards

- Move the jumper from pins 1-2 to pins 2-3 to erase the password.
- The system detects the change and the password, time and date are
erased from memory. Rapid Resume settings are also deleted.
- Move the jumper from pins 2-3 to pins 1-2 for normal operation.
- Plug the power cable into the electrical outlet and power-on the system unit.
- Run the Setup Utility to restore the configuration settings. Press Esc
to save with the password disabled.
- When you are finished servicing the machine, run the Setup Utility to
restore the configuration settings. (You must reset the time, date, and any Rapid
Resume settings.
Type 2144 SL-E Aptiva Computers Type B-1 system boards

- Power off the system unit.
- UNPLUG the power cable from the electrical outlet.
- Locate and remove the battery
- Press down on the battery retaining clip until it touches the bottom terminal.
This temporarily shorts the connection, the system detects the change, and the password, time, and date
are erased from memory. Rapid Resume settings are also deleted !
- Install the battery.
- Plug the power cable into the electrical outlet and power-on the system.
- Run the configuration utility.
Type 2144/2168 Aptiva Computers Type C-1 or C-2 system boards

- Power off the system unit.
- UNPLUG the power cable from the electrical outlet.
(The on/off switch on the system unit does not completely power off the powers supply.
- Locate connector JP14 on the system board.
- Move the jumper on JP14 from PIN's 1-2 to PIN's 2-3 to erase the password.
- The system detects the change and the password, time, date are erased from the memory.
Rapid Resume settings are also deleted.
- Move the jumper on JP14 back to PIN's 1-2 for normal operation.
- Plug the power cable into the electrical outlet and power on the system unit.
- Run the Configuration Utility to restore the configuration settings. Press Esc to save with the password disabled.
- When finished servicing the machine, run the Configuration Utility to restore the configuration settings.
For 2140 / 2142 Aptiva Computers SL-A Type A-1 and A-2 system boards
and Type 2144 / 2168 Aptiva Computers (SL-D (Pentium®) and SL-H-x) system boards

- Power off the system unit.
- UNPLUG the power cable from the electrical outlet.
(The on/off switch on the system unit does not completely power off the powers supply.
- Locate Jumper/connector on the system board:
JP6 for 2140, 2142 type A-1
JP3 for 2140, 2142 type A-2
J40 for SL-D type
JP14 for SL- (H and I) -1 type
JP12 for SL- (H and I) -2 type
- Move the jumper from PIN's 1-2 to PIN's 2-3 to erase the password.
- The system detects the change and the password, time, date are erased from the memory.
Rapid Resume settings are also deleted.
- Move the jumper:
JP6 for 2140, 2142 type A-1
JP3 for 2140, 2142 type A-2
J40 for SL-D type
JP14 for SL- (H and I) -1 type
JP12 for SL- (H and I) -2 type
back to PIN's 1-2 for normal operation.
- Plug the power cable into the electrical outlet and power on the system unit.
- On SL-D type machines, press and hold down the left and right mouse buttons together until the memory count is completed.
- The system board beeps twice, and the system re boots.
- press Enter when the Virus warning appears.
- When finished servicing the machine, run the Configuration Utility to restore the configuration settings.
(You must reset the time, date, and any Rapid Resume settings).
