USB (Universal Serial Bus) Sys-Board Connector
USB (Universal Serial Bus) Connector
The universal serial bus (USB) is an emerging serial interface standard for telephony and multimedia devices.
Each USB port is a single connector for devices that previously used serial, parallel, keyboard, mouse and game ports.
USB uses Plug and Play to determine which type of device has been attached to the connector.
Each USB device is accessed by a unique USB address.
A device called a hub is used to convert a single USB connector into multiple attachment points.
A hub has multiple ports where peripherals can be attached.
USB provides 12 megabits-per-second (Mbps) bandwith with a maximum of 63 peripheral
devices, and a maximum signal distance of (16 ft.) five meters per segment.
(If more than one USB device is to be attached, the device must be connected to a hub.
The USB is compliant with Universal Host Controller Interface Design Guide 1.0.
Features by USB technology include:
- Support for hot pluggable devices
- Support for concurrent operation of multiple devices
- Suitable for different device bandwith
- Connections of up to five meters in length from host to hub or hub to hub
- Guaranteed bandwith and low latencies appropriate for specific devices
- Wide range of packet sizes
- Limited power to hubs
The following machine-type, does not support USB-Keyboard devices.
