RipCurl (Pentium 4) System Board Overview

  • The following list summarizes the features that make up the standard Ripcurl product.

    • ATX compatible form factor
    • Supports the Intel Willamette processor family in the PGA423 Socket Only. (Currently P4)
    • Tehama chipset:
      • MCH - Memory Controller Hub
      • ICH2 - Input/Output Controller Hub 2
      • FWH - Firmware Hub
    • Two lock-stepped D-RDRAM channels with two Rambus Interface Memory Modules (RIMMs) per channel (4 total RIMM sockets)
      • This provides a system memory range of 128MB minimum to 1.5GB maximum using 128Mbit, 256Mbit or 512Mbit D-RDRAM technology.
      • Ripcurl supports PC800MHz RDRAM only (400Mhz data bus)
    • Supports the Accelerated Graphics Port with 1.5V AGP only connector
      • 1.5V AGP 4x design - 3.3V AGP cards are not supported
      • Conforms with the AGP Specification v2.0
    • Ripcurl standard product will have no audio
    • SMSC LPC Super I/O Controller
    • 5 PCI slots
    • Optional 1 CNR connector (for audio, modem, LAN, and/or HPNA); CNR resides in a shared space with PCI Slot #5
    • Two Universal Serial Bus controllers (4 ports)
      • Default configuration is 2 ports at the back I/O panel and 2 via front panel header (pin out TBD)
    • Supports ACPI 1.0 power management
    • Instantly Available PC features:
      • Wake on USB, PCI, CNR, RS-232, PS/2, LAN, Front Panel
      • AMI BIOS with user and administrator password recovery in BIOS via Maintenance menu

  • Processor Support and Interface

    Processor support will consist of:

    • Single Willamette processor in Willamette processor package (PGA423)
    • PGA423 socket interconnect on desktop system board
    • 400Mhz system data bus

  • System Memory

    Ripcurl will implement the system memory bus using Direct Rambus™ technology. The Tehama Memory Controller Hub (MCH) integrates two lock-stepped Direct Rambus Channels, providing processor to memory bandwidth of 3.2GB/sec. The memory system will consist of the following features:

    • 4 RIMM connectors, 2 per channel = 2 channel board
    • 2.5V and 2.5V SB VREGs supporting both channels
    • Maximum of 32 Direct Rambus devices per channel
    • Single or double-sided RIMM configurations
    • Memory configurations from 128MB minimum to 1.5GB Supported - must be PC800 compliant

  • Intel 850 Memory Controller Hub (MCH)

    Supports the Intel Willamette processor in the PGA423 socket with a 400Mhz data bus

    • Integrated dual lock-step Direct Rambus Channels
      • Supports PC800 (400Mhz) D-RDRAM · Minimum 128MB to a maximum of 1.5GB system memory using 128Mb, 256Mb or 512Mb technology
      • Supports up to 32 Direct Rambus devices per channel (64 total devices loaded on system)
      • Auto-detection of D-RDRAM memory
    • Supports a single AGP device running in 2x or 4x AGP mode at 1.5V only
      • 1.5V (only) interface - 3.3v AGP cards are not supported
      • Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP) 2.0 compliant interface
      • Support for Fast Writes in either 2x or 4x mode · Interface to ICH2 via HL1.0 for I/O support
