This ECA provides for the replacement of Netfinity 18.2GB 10,000rpm Wide Ultra SCSI Hot-Swap SCA-2 Hard Disk Drives (HDD) in a limited number of Netfinity systems, that experience Soft errors on multiple heads on medium or hardware hard errors, causing the drive to be marked DDD.

They may also have a symptom of "Drive not ready".

This ECA is "MANDATORY".

DETAIL:

The HDD part number affected is FRU P/N 10L6047.

This ECA only applies to drives with serial numbers listed in the file referred to previously.

Note: The Serial Number is located on the HDDs label on the left-hand side and says "Serial Number".

If using the ServeRAID adapter and Windows NT follow these instructions for finding the serial numbers:

ServeRAID Manager:

  1.  Install ServeRAID Manager CD.
  2.  Go to Start at the bottom of the NT screen.
  3.  Go up to Programs; then, find ServeRAID Manager.
  4.  Click on Controller 1; then, Physical Drives, followed by the appropriate SCSI Channel ID.
  5.  The IDs of all drives and their status will then appear.
  6.  Left click on any of the drive IDs. The serial number along with other information appear seen under drive information.

ServeRAID Administration/Monitor:

  1.  Go to Start at the bottom of the NT Screen
(this is after installation of ServeRAID Admin/Monitor, which can be done from a diskette).
  2.  Find IBM ServeRAID Administration.
  3.  Current settings of the drives appear along with array information.
  4.  Right click on the desired drive ID, and just as before, the serial numbers along with other information will appear  under drive information.

If using Fibre channel the SYMplicity Storage Manager has an option called Module Profile.

After selecting Module Profile, a choice of Drives will show the serial number of the individual drives selected.

Refer to the HMM or User's Guide for instructions on replacing the HDD assembly.
Ensure that the latest level of ServeRAID firmware (3.50 or later) has been applied prior to replacement of drives.

Note: The customer is responsible for backing up any data.

The HMM, User Guides, (in .PDF format) and ServeRAID firmware are available from the following URL:
