Abstract: POWER CONTROL CARD CAN EXHIBIT A CAPACITOR BURNOUT FAILURE

SYMPTOM:

•  Capacitor at C6 or C8 on card will burnout and render the Power Control Card, FRU P/N 03K9097, inoperative.
•  Burned Capacitor can also cause transistors Q4 and/or Q5 to fail.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

•  The system is a Netfinity 7000-M10 server, Type 8680, any Model.
•  The system is configured with 1-4 Processors.
•  The system is configured with Power Control Card and Bracket, FRU P/N 03K9097.

FIX:

The Power Control Card and Bracket, FRU P/N 03K9097 (5v regulator card) was manufactured with incorrect cap value 16v instead of correct 20v value.
This error was fixed in EC# E73186A.

WORKAROUND:

If capacitor fails, replace card in system.

DETAILS:

Some cards may fail in system with a start up surge voltage.
16v capacitor will not handle as much surge as 20v capacitor.
There is no way to determine if and when capacitor will fail.
Only known fails were on pre-GA product.
