Abstract: NETFINITY 5000: WINDOWS NT INSTALLATION FAILS, SYSTEM HALTED

SYMPTOM:

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

Two possible fixes:

  1.  Press F6 during the "Setup is inspecting your computer's hardware..." message. Load driver(s) for Fibre Channel  Host Bus adapter at this time.

Note: If this fails, use second fix (below).

  2.  Install Fibre Channel Host Bus Adapter Card and driver after Windows NT has been completely installed.

DETAILS:

A number of drivers are loaded by default in order to be able to install from the CD without special driver diskettes.
These drivers ask Windows NT for specific resources, and if no other driver has claimed them, will attempt their private detection methods.
These drivers are ones that are submitted to Microsoft for inclusion on the CD.
If the driver is loaded, it will claim its addresses.
These private detection methods may try to talk to areas they do not own in incompatible ways.
