Abstract: WINDOWS NT 4.0 WILL NOT INSTALL WITH 4GB OF SYSTEM MEMORY


SYMPTOM:

System Exception Errors during installation of Windows NT.


PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:


FIX:

This is a problem with Windows NT 4.0.
Check the Microsoft Website for the availability of permanent fix for this problem.

WORKAROUND:

  1.  Remove the memory riser card from the system and remove enough memory to leave 2GB (Two Gigabytes) or less installed.
  2.  Reinstall the memory riser card.
  3.  Go into Set-up and configure the system for the new amount of installed system memory.
  4.  Install Windows NT 4.0 and SP4 pack or above.
     After Windows NT 4.0 has been fully configured and loaded (displaying the desktop); do the following:

    1.  Shutdown Windows NT 4.0.
    2.  Remove the memory riser card.
    3.  Reinstall all memory.
    4.  Reinstall the memory riser card.
    5.  Go into set-up and configure the system for the new amount of installed memory.
