Abstract: SP may ISSUE OVER VOLTAGE ALERT DUE TO PS COMPATIBILITY

SYMPTOM:

The System Error Light will indicate a system failure.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

A new 175 Watt Power Supply (PS) upgrade FRU P/N 36L8845 replaces FRU P/N 01K9864.

WORKAROUND:

When a Magnetek 350 watt PS and an older 175 watt upgrade PS is installed the service processor may issue an over voltage alert.
Replace 175 watt PS FRU P/N 01K9864 with FRU P/N 36L8845.
The over voltage alert can be verified by examining the system error log.

DETAILS:

When adding a older Delta upgrade power supply to a system with an existing Magnetek base power supply the shared common node may present an over voltage condition to the service processor due to a peak voltage detection problem.
The shared common node circuitry has been modified in the newer upgrade power supply to eliminate this problem.
Magnetek power supply will be listed as MAGN in the system card data in the system information menu of the configuration/set-up utility.
There is no problem if the base power supply vendor is Delta.
Delta is listed as DELT in the system card data.
