TEXT:
Free IRQ's on 320, 520, and 330's, for PCI Devices.
SYMPTOMS:
Customer has used up interrupts: 2/9, 10, 11, 15. Based on the
Page 203, in the 320 users handbook the customer attempts to free up more interrupts:
- "if a situation occurs where you need an additional interrupt, you can use an interrupt from
another function that you might not need, such as the IDE controller
(interrupt 14) or COM port (interrupt 3)." The PCI device add to the system will be set
to disabled in the EISA configuration.
The addition interrupts freed by the customer will not be available under
the PCI device's resources. The customer may try to manually enable the adapter in the EISA
utility, but will receive a message stating:"
In order to accommodate your selection, the utility must make the following changes"
At this time the utility will state the enable device must be set to disable.
PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
Fix:
No fix. It is not possible to set any PCI device to an interrupt other than 2/9, 10, 11 and 15.
WORKAROUND:
If there is a EISA device using one of the four interrupts that
are usable by the PCI Bus, then that device should be moved to another
supported interrupt, thus allowing the PCI device access to the interrupt.
DETAILS:
Novell NetWare doesn't allow the use of interrupt 15, thus limiting the PCI devices to 2/9, 10, 11.
