Abstract: SERVERAID DRIVER FAILURE during NW4.11 INSTALL.

SYMPTOM:

During the initial install of NetWare 4.11, a failure appears during the loading of "ipsraid.ham". When install loads the RAID drivers, a message is displayed:

"Failure during scan for new devices."

When you get to the screen where you set up NetWare partitions, only the Adaptec drives appear on the list. The problem may also become evident if a large red screen appears stating that the drives are inaccessible during NetWare volume creation.
The first adapter loaded (according to the slot number entered) will not be able to see its partitions.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:

FIX:

No Permanent Fix is currently available

WORKAROUND:

There are several workarounds to this problem:

  1.  Do not load SMP support until after the IWSP5B support pack is applied.
  2.  Copy the MPS14.PSM module onto a diskette and during  NetWare v4.11 installation, when prompted for the MPS module  to use to obtain Symmetrical Multi-Processing support, place  the diskette into A:\ and press <Ins> followed by <Enter> to  load the updated module.
  3.  Only load one instance of the IPSRAID.HAM driver until after  support pack IWSP5B is applied.
  4.  Set all ServeRAID adapter to be on unique interrupts (and not  IRQ 15 or IRQ's used by LAN adapters, Service processor, or  on-board devices)

NOTES:

  1.  This problem will not occur in NetWare v5.
  2.  The problem is fixed once Support Pack 5B for NetWare v4.11 is installed.
  3.  The problem does not exist for NetWare v3.x because of lack of SMP support.
