What's new in this version **************************************************************************** . Easy installation program One easy-to-use and comprehensive setup program is also provided to help the user through the installation and configuration procedure. You just have to insert the ADM CD into CD-ROM drive or run the install.exe program directly under the CD root directory. The smarter installation program will guide you through the overall installation and configuration process. . More powerful hardware monitor module More advanced user interface is provided to expose the power of hardware monitor module. Currently, user can see the value ( such as Fan Speed, Voltage Value ... etc. ) from the user interface or set the threshold ( such as Fan Low Speed or Voltage Low Level ). **************************************************************************** 2. Notice for networking users **************************************************************************** If you are using ADM as network management system, read this section and follow the listed procedures to enable ADM to function properly. To install the ADM Local Package: 1. Install and configure the TCP/IP protocol. ( Refer to the Windows 95 user's guide or Resource kit for installation and configuration information. ) 2. Install and configure the SNMP service. ( Refer to the Windows 95 user's guide or Resource kit for installation and configuration information. ) *NOTE* Since Windows 95 does not fully provide a configuration utility for SNMP, we decided to include an easy-to-use utility for configuring the SNMP service in this ADM version. 3. Install the ADM Local package (see the \\local directory in the CD package). When prompted to select the installation option, choose the Fully option. To install the ADM Admin Package: 1. Install and configure the TCP/IP protocol. Refer to the Windows 95 user's guide or Windows 95 Resource kit for information. 2. Install and configure the SNMP service. *NOTE* Since Windows 95 does not fully provide a configuration utility for SNMP, we decided to include an easy-to-use utility for configuring the SNMP service in this ADM version. For information on how to use the utility, see section 5. 3. Install the ADM Admin package (see the \\admin directory in the CD package). If you want to change a machine that is previously configured as Client (monitored) machine to an Administrator machine, you must uninstall the previously installed Local package before you install the Admin package. **************************************************************************** 3. How to configure SNMP with SNMP Configuration Wizard **************************************************************************** After you have installed the ADM package , the SNMP configuration Wizard is added to your ADM folder. Use this wizard to configure SNMP. To do this, follow the procedures listed below: 1. From the ADM folder, double-click the SNMP Configuration Wizard to launch the program. 2. The first wizard page will guide you in adding a community string. The default community string is "public". We recommend that you select the default and go to the next wizard page. You can add a community string of your choice depending on your network layout. Adding a Community String: Enter a community string in the upper edit box and click the Add button. This adds your entry in the Communities list box. Removing a Community String: From the Communities list box, select the community string that you want to remove. Then click on the Remove button. 3. Click the Next button to go the next wizard page. This page will guide you in adding an authorized management station within the "public" community. We recommend you not to change anything in this page and just accept the defaults. Then skip to the next wizard page. Adding a Management Station: Select the desired community from the Community list box. Enter the IP address in the upper edit boxes. Then click the Add button to add your entry in the list box. Removing a Management Station: From the authorized IP address list box, select the IP address of the Management station that you want to remove. Then click on the Remove button. 4. Click the Next button to go to the next wizard page. This page will guide you in configuring the trap destination and in enabling/disabling the trap service. Click on Enable Authentication Traps button. A dot mark should appear on the button. Then add the trap destination IP address in the desired community. Enabling/Disabling Trap Service: Click the Enable Authentication Traps button to enable the trap service. When enabled, a dot mark appears on the button. To disable, click the button again. Notice that when disabled, no dot mark appears on the button. Adding a Trap Destination: Select a community string from the Community list box. Enter the destination IP address in the upper edit boxes. Then click the Add button to add your entry in the list box. Removing a Trap Destination: Select an IP address from the list box and click on the Remove button. *NOTE* To enable the ADM trap mechanism function properly, you must add a trap destination IP address in the public community. 5. Click the Finish button to complete the configuration process. **************************************************************************** 4. Change and bugs fixed **************************************************************************** The followings have been changed to support some advanced hardware specification: *. For disk size larger than 2 GB, previous version can't show the total size correctly. Currently, the trouble had been solved but still limited to 4 GB size. **************************************************************************** 5. Troubleshooting **************************************************************************** 1. Reconstruct the DMI SP database The DMI SP database will crash if the user shutdown the system in an abnormal way. If this happened, the service layer cannot function properly and error messages appear every time you start your machine. You can fix this without going through the detailed technical troubleshooting process. All you have to do is just double-click the Troubleshooting icon, restart the machine and ADM will do the rest of the process automatically. 2. Couldn't install the ADM properly Most of the time, if you install ADM right after the uninstalling without restarting the machine, the ADM won't be able to install properly.
